Rental Market Overview

The rental market in Connecticut offers a wide variety of options, including apartment complexes, condominiums, single-family homes and multi-family homes.

Apartment complexes are common throughout Connecticut, providing the largest resource for renters, particularly in Hartford and New Haven Counties. Privately owned single-family homes and condominiums are available less often than rental properties, except in Fairfield County, where privately owned condominiums are the largest source of available rentals.

In Connecticut, it is also possible to find short-term rental properties that offer three, six, or nine-month leases. Some short-term accommodations are available fully furnished, including kitchenware, linens and maid service.

A number of factors influence the availability of rental properties, including the town, time of year and special requirements, such as whether pets are allowed. Prospective renters are encouraged to begin their searches at least 30 days prior to their move-in date. Landlords and apartment managers are reluctant to hold available units without a completed application and appropriate fees.
